How to use
Tally Insight

Everything you need to install, activate, and get the most from your reports.

Installation

Tally Insight is a single .exe file. No installer required. Download, place anywhere on your PC, and double-click to run.

Before you start
  • Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) required
  • Tally Prime or Tally ERP 9 must be installed and running on the same PC
  • Tally XML HTTP server must be enabled on port 9000 (default setting — most installs already have it)
  • You will need a license key from tallyinsight.com/pricing
Steps

Download the EXE

Click Download on tallyinsight.com/download. Save TallyInsight.exe to any folder.

Run the file

Double-click TallyInsight.exe. If Windows SmartScreen appears, click More info then Run anyway.

Enter your license key

The activation screen appears on first launch. Enter your key in format TI-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.

Activation

Activation binds your license to this specific machine. One license = one machine at a time.

How it works

The app sends your license key and a hardware fingerprint (a hash of your CPU and MAC address) to our server. The server verifies validity and confirms activation. After activation, the app works fully offline for up to 7 days.

Internet requirement: Only needed at activation, and once every 7 days thereafter to re-verify your license.

Company selection

After activation you select which Tally companies to load. This selection is permanent once confirmed.

  • Starter: select 1 company
  • Business: select up to 3 companies
  • Professional: all companies loaded automatically
Important: Choose carefully. Selection cannot be changed after confirmation without contacting support.

Dashboard overview

The main dashboard shows key financial metrics pulled live from Tally.

KPI strip

Five cards: Total Sales, Total Purchase, Unique Customers, Products Sold (SKUs), and Invoice count. Updated every time you open the app.

FY filter

Use the Financial Year selector to filter all reports to a specific year. Select multiple years for side-by-side comparisons.

GST toggle

Switch between GST-exclusive and GST-inclusive figures globally. Default is Excl. (net amounts).

Click to drill down

Click any bar in the monthly chart to see day-by-day transactions. Click any party or product to see full transaction history.

GST reports

Output tax, input tax, and reconciliation flags — derived from your Tally vouchers.

  • Output GST: CGST, SGST, IGST by month — matches your GSTR-1
  • Input GST: Tax on purchases, credit available — matches GSTR-2A
  • Net payable: Output minus input — approximate GSTR-3B liability
  • Party-wise GST: Which customers contributed most to output tax

Profit & Loss

P&L generated from your Tally ledger structure. Clean format for management review or bank submission.

Shows: Gross Revenue, COGS, Gross Profit, Operating Expenses by ledger group, and Net Profit. Each line is clickable to see underlying vouchers. Use FY filter to compare multiple years.

Inventory analysis

Identify slow-moving and dead stock — items tying up capital without generating sales.

Configure your dead stock threshold (e.g., 30 days). Items with no outward movement in that period are flagged, showing value locked by category or SKU.

Party ledger

Business and Professional plans. Detailed analysis of customer and supplier relationships.

  • Top customers and suppliers by value
  • Receivables aging: 0–30, 31–60, 61–90, 90+ days
  • Payables aging by bucket
  • Click any party to see full transaction history

Renewal

Subscriptions are annual and do not auto-renew. You are notified 30 days before expiry.

On expiry the app stops immediately. Local data is retained. Purchase a new plan, receive a new key, enter it — data and company selection carry over automatically.

Machine transfer

Changing your PC or reinstalling Windows? Email support to transfer your license.

Email support@tallyinsight.com with your license key. We deactivate the old machine and you activate on the new one. One transfer per year at no charge.

Tally not connecting

If the app cannot connect to Tally, check in order:

  • Tally is open and a company is loaded
  • In Tally: Help → Settings → Connectivity → HTTP server enabled on port 9000
  • No firewall blocking port 9000 on localhost
  • Both Tally and Tally Insight running under the same Windows user account
  • Try restarting Tally, then clicking Refresh in Tally Insight

License errors

Common error messages and what to do.

“License not found”

Key not in system. Check your purchase email and copy the key exactly (format: TI-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX).

“License expired”

Subscription ended. Purchase a renewal at tallyinsight.com/pricing.

“Machine mismatch”

License is registered to a different machine. Contact support to transfer it to your current machine.

“Cannot verify license”

App cannot reach license server. Check internet connection. If offline more than 7 days, a connection is required.
